Why is knowing cold storage capacity so important? If we understand the size and scope of the cold chain market, we can identify areas where cold chain infrastructure is sorely needed. We can then use that information to connect governments and private investors to businesses in under-served markets.
Can you provide cold storage information on a specific country? Complete our brief survey in English or Spanish at http://coldstoragecapacity.questionpro.com. Survey participants will get a free copy of the report. The survey is also available in MS Word if you would like to preview the questions or complete the survey offline.
According to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service, there was 4.17 billion cu ft gross refrigerated storage capacity in the U.S. on October 1, 2015. This is a 3% increase in refrigerated warehouse capacity in the U.S. since October 2013.
Public refrigerated warehouse capacity accounts for 75.28% of gross refrigerated capacity in the U.S., which is a slight decrease (0.59%) from 2013. Notably, International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW) members own or operate 76% of the refrigerated capacity in the United States. Between 2013 and 2015, public refrigerated space increased 2%. Private and semi-private space increased 5.32%. While growth rates were faster in private warehouses, there were 9 million more cubic ft added to public storage companies than to private.
