Calculate the Perfect Freezing and Storage Temperatures

What will it cost to freeze product? How much time will it take to freeze product? What’s the shelf-life of a product? That’s just a sampling of the innumerable factors refrigerated warehouse managers must consider when accepting new food products.

World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO), a Core Partner of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) member Dr. Dennis Heldman showcased the Food Freezing and Storage Calculator during a recent GCCA webinar.

WFLO Scientific Advisory Council Member Inducted into Meat Industry Hall of Fame

Dr. Joe Sebranek, a key member of the World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO) Scientific Advisory Council (SAC), was recently inducted into the Meat Industry Hall of Fame. With meat products constituting a significant portion of frozen and refrigerated food moving through the cold chain, Sebranek’s 15 years of participation on the SAC has been vital, providing expertise in meat science, and more specifically, meat processing and preservation technology, to the temperature-controlled logistics industry. How Airflow Management in Reefer Trailers Minimizes Cold Chain Losses

The International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA), a core partner of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), recently received this question from a delegation from Eastern Europe: “Why does airflow in reefer trailers flow clockwise and airflow in reefer containers flow counter clockwise?” Dr. Patrick Brecht, a member of the World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO) Scientific Advisory Council responded.

“The airflow answer is not simply clockwise vs counter clockwise,” said Dr. Brecht. “The superior airflow management system is vertical airflow (i.e., reefer container) and the less effective airflow system is horizontal airflow (i.e., reefer trailer).”   Continue reading

Dr. Patrick Brecht joins Scientific Advisory Council as transport expert

Recently, the International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA) board identified the need for greater expertise in reefer technologies to better support IRTA members’ operational inquiries. As a result, GCCA has been working to recruit such an expert, to complement the existing strong expertise in food-safety related transport, logistics, and load consolidation that the WFLO Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) currently provides.

GCCA and WFLO are pleased to announce that Dr. Patrick Brecht has been identified as the SAC’s newest addition. Dr. Brecht has extensive transport-related experience as a professor and corporate executive. He has also authored publications that are used as key reference guides in the industry. His bio and additional information can be found below.
