On September 26th and 27thtrade delegates of both the United States Paraguay met in Asuncion in the second meeting of the Paraguay-United States Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).  The goal of the US-Paraguay TIFA is to recognize the growth potential of countries, increase transparency, establish a mechanism for further dialogue, and to promote enterprise investment opportunities.  The recent expansion of the US-Paraguay TIFA include provisions on agriculture sustainability and increasing food security.  This includes adopting policies supported by biotechnology and participating in climate sustainable agriculture practices.  The USDA FSIS also determined that Paraguay’s food safety system for beef is equivalent to that of the United States, which could led to enhanced export opportunities.
