The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is launching a new digital platform to manage export applications and food export certifications. On February 14, 2017, representatives of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) participated in the USDA Public Health Information System (PHIS) Export webinar to learn more about the new platform and how it might affect GCCA members.
The webinar included an introduction to the new digital PHIS system security, e-Authorization Requirements, the enrollment process, and how to implement and manage export applications in the new online system.
PHIS is the new online module for food product import/export certifications and replaces the former paper based process. In this webinar, USDA announced the release of the export addition to the module. The new USDA system will go into effect on June 29, 2017. It will begin in a phased country approach, initially including only 18 countries. The first set of countries are listed in the table below.
A roll-out plan is being built to include all export countries by December 2018. This new system will handle 9080-3 and 9060-6 applications, replacements, and managing activities for exporters. Food product exporters will need to enroll establishment users in this new system to begin applying and managing all export certifications.
The USDA export webinar provided a PowerPoint with step by step instructions for enrollment processes and the creation and management of new export certifications. This was published to assist industry leaders in the navigation of the new system, and how the digital format could prove different for your establishment than the former paper system. With the consolidation of export paperwork and certifications comes streamlined communication and business operations.
