Planning for Food Safety in Design and Construction

As temperature-controlled warehousing providers diversify and expand their offerings to meet their customers’ needs by building onsite processing areas, many are facing challenges when planning for food safety. A relatively new challenge for warehouse operators who have typically dealt with frozen and packaged product, processing areas require a stringent review of procedures to ensure compliance with food safety guidelines. Floor design to ensure effective cleaning, types of cleaners used, and handling wastewater are just a few of the concerns that must be taken into consideration during the design and construction phase.
