On July 21, a delegation comprised of 14 participants representing the transportation sector in the Dominican Republic arrived in Washington, D.C. to attend an educational study tour organized by GCCA as part of our ongoing support to the Export Quality and Safety project. This project is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and has been operating since 2016. This is the final year of activities.
Prior to the trip, the participants expressed interest in learning about existing technologies and innovations, as well as their application; best practices and opportunities for certification; ongoing trends; and how to best address driver challenges. To meet these information objectives, GCCA organized meetings with member companies including WCS and RLS Logistics, while also reaching into our network to set up meetings with the International Road Union (IRU), American Trucking Association (ATA), and Agromovil, a new technology for transportation logistics that has been launched in Colombia. The final day concluded with a visit to the Produce Market at Hunts Point for a series of meetings to underscore best practices for fruits and vegetables as products arrive at their final destination.
