Superfrio Armazéns Gerais has achieved recognition for their efforts towards increasing energy efficiency and maintaining a culture of energy excellence and sustainability at their Vargem Grande do Sul, SP facility. Superfrio’s facility is the first facility in Brazil to achieve recognition, representing the fourth country participating in the Energy Excellence program. Superfrio’s facility received Silver recognition for their efforts to reduce energy use over time. This facility-specific program allows a location to establish a baseline year with records, and then track performance over time to identify challenges and opportunities for improvement.
The temperature-controlled supply chain uses a considerable amount of energy on an annual basis, with energy consistently ranking as a temperature-controlled warehouse facility’s second highest annual operating expense. The Global Cold Chain Alliance Energy Excellence Recognition Program was designed to recognize warehouse facilities as they improve their energy efficiency and reward those that drive a philosophy of energy conservation, all while helping to make the overall cold chain more sustainable. Launched in August 2018, the program can also help warehouse organizations better partner with their customers on sustainability initiatives while creating greater efficiencies that may generate cost-savings that can be passed along to consumers.
A full list of facilities and companies that are enrolled in the program is available. The GCCA Energy Excellence Recognition Program is open to all companies operating a temperature-controlled space. Cost to participate and more details are available online at www.gcca.org/energyexcellence. Those interested may also contact GCCA at +1 703-373-4300 ext. 234 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
