On July 27th, Senators Mike Braun (R-IN) and John Fetterman (D-PA) introduced S. 2570, the Fortifying Refrigeration Infrastructure and Developing Global Exports (FRIDGE) Act. The FRIDGE Act is legislation promoted by GCCA that would add authority to the Trade Title of the Farm Bill to focus on strengthening the global food supply chain for frozen and refrigerated products. As evidenced by recent disruptions, one of the biggest barriers to a strong and resilient global food supply chain is the lack of cold chain capacity in emerging markets. S. 2570 is companion legislation to H.R. 4612, which was introduced earlier in July by Reps. Feenstra, Mann, Costa and Carbajal. The FRIDGE Act is now formally introduced in both the House and Senate with bipartisan support, which positions it well as the House and Senate Agriculture Committee work to draft the 2023 Farm Bill.
