The United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) and the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) announced, on October 25th, the resumption of formal labor negotiations, aiming to reach a comprehensive agreement that will safeguard the strength of the East and Gulf Coast ports and the well-being of workers. Following a series of informal discussions, the two parties are moving forward in their commitment to sustaining uninterrupted port operations and protecting U.S. economic interests.

Both USMX and ILA have emphasized that the continuity of these essential labor discussions signals a shared determination to avoid the disruptions that can have significant impacts on the nation’s supply chain, local economies, and thousands of jobs. The joint statement expressed optimism that resumed discussions will facilitate progress on shared priorities: worker safety, fair wages, and equitable treatment in the workplace. In addition, USMX and ILA leaders recognized the importance of steady operations to ensure that shippers, consumers, and communities dependent on maritime trade can remain resilient.

In their statement, USMX and ILA leaders acknowledged that despite the complex nature of these negotiations, they are unified in their goal to build upon recent conversations and find common ground. GCCA will continue closely monitoring the situation and remain engaged with government and industry partners as negotiations move forward.
