United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai, Sweden’s Permanent Representative to the European Union (EU), Ambassador Mikael Lindvall, and European Commission Deputy Director General for Agriculture and Rural Development, Michael Scannell, signed the U.S.-EU Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) Agreement on January 17th.  Once implemented, the Agreement will allow the United States to maintain its current access to the EU market for a variety of agricultural goods following the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU on January 1, 2021.

The historical trend of agricultural exports to the 27 EU Member States served as the basis for the new TRQ allocations. Through the Agreement, advantageous market access will be restored for a number of American agricultural goods, including rice, almonds, wheat, and corn. The US sold agricultural products worth $11.1 billion to the EU in the first eleven months of 2022.
