In September, the Global Cold Chain Foundation (GCCF) concluded an 8-module virtual training course on perishable handling practices for participants working with the ATraCSI project, a Food for Progress project that provides assistance to Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

An average of 78 students attended each course, which was taught by Marco A. Leon Felix with support from Dr. Eduardo Molina, GCCF’s expert on the Council of Scientific Advisors for packaging. In addition, 12 students from the project attended the Latin America Institute: 6 students in Year 1 and 6 students in Year 2. In follow-up to what the students learned, several have requested specialized technical assistance to enhance their operations. GCCF is currently working with the project to provide experts on design, energy, and postharvest handling. The focus on training and general best practices is a positive step to strengthening the cold chain in each country where continued GCCA activities and services will continue long after the project concludes.
