On May 9th, the House Ways and Means committee held a Field Hearing on Trade in America: Securing Supply Chains and Protecting the American Worker. The hearing took place in Staten Island, NY and focused on challenges facing supply chains and trade. During the hearing, Congressman Randy Feenstra (R-IA) spoke about the importance of building cold chain capacity in developing markets to boost U.S. agricultural exports. Feenstra also spoke about the nation’s current reliance on a small number of trading partners for the majority of agricultural trade and the need to diversify markets. Dale Hemminger, a dairy and greenhouse producer echoed the points made by Rep. Feenstra and agreed that having an effective cold chain is fundamental to trade of perishable commodities. GCCA appreciates Rep. Feenstra’s leadership in raising the issue of cold chain before the Ways and Means Committee.
