Since launching the Food Waste Reduction Initiative (FWRI) in 2022, GCCF has collaborated with food rescue organizations, food banks, and logistics partners to provide access and expertise on cold chain logistics while concurrently supporting members with their ability to donate product.

“GCCF is proud to support members with food redistribution,” says Amanda Brondy, Vice President of International Projects, who leads the FWRI. “It’s been a tough year for a lot of families, and it is more critical than ever to keep good food out of landfills and ensure it makes it into the homes of our neighbors. We want to raise awareness so more of our members can engage in these efforts with us.”

In November of 2025, Mike Newman, the Operations and Food Safety Manager at Summit Cold Storage reached out to GCCF looking to transfer 422 pallets, over 200,000 pounds, of frozen product to local food banks. The GCCF team quickly mobilized from West Africa and the US, and staff reached out to food rescue partners through the Foundation’s FWRI. Summit Cold Storage was able to ensure a seamless transfer of the product to a local food bank, which will be distributed over the coming months. This donation will help to provide more than 185,000 meals to families.
