After a tense year of negotiations and the risk of potential work stoppage, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) have finalized an agreement on a new contract. ILWU members voted 75% in favor of ratifying the agreement, which is set to last until July 1st, 2028. The new contract includes a 32% pay raise over the six years of the contract and includes a one-time bonus to those who worked in the early days of COVID. PMA President and CEO Jim McKenna commented, “This contract provides an important framework for the hard work ahead to overcome new competitive challenges and to continue to position the West Coast ports as destinations of choice for shippers worldwide”.
