Agriculture Committee Leaders Search for Path Forward on Farm Bill

As Congress continues work towards passing a new farm bill, House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn “G.T.” Thompson (R-Pa.) and other key agricultural policymakers are meeting to discuss options for advancing legislation this year. Current Farm Bill authorities expire on September 30th. Thompson, joined by House Agriculture Committee ranking member David Scott (D-Ga.), Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), and Senate Agriculture Committee ranking member John Boozman (R-Ark.), remains optimistic about achieving progress, despite challenges.
While discussions are ongoing, divisions over funding allocations, nutrition and conservation policy have slowed progress. Should Congress not be able to complete a new bill by the end of the calendar year, another short-term extension will be likely. Pressure continues to mount from stakeholders across the agricultural sector who are pushing for a comprehensive five-year package rather than temporary stopgap measures.
The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) is committed to working alongside Congress to ensure the passage of critical legislation, including the FRIDGE Act, which supports the cold chain’s sustainability and efficiency. As part of a broader agricultural policy framework, passing the farm bill and securing provisions like the FRIDGE Act are essential for providing stability to the industry and promoting food security.
