Event Overview

The Cold Chain’s Role in Expanding Protein Access & Reducing Food Waste

28 October 2026 | 11 a.m. Eastern

The Global Cold Chain Foundation (GCCF) is actively engaged in international projects to develop the cold chain around the world. Since beginning international development projects in 2002, GCCF has successfully completed over 130 projects in 72 countries. GCCF carries out feasibility studies, association development, training and education programs, and construction advisory projects with a variety of public, private, and multilateral institutions around the world.

Additionally, GCCF is committed to promoting food redistribution through our Food Waste Reduction Initiative. The initiative began in 2022, inspired by member engagement with food rescue organizations and the growing problem of food loss and waste. Through this Initiative, GCCA and GCCF strive to reduce food waste throughout the cold chain by sharing best practices; facilitating connections and donations; and raising awareness of food waste in the industry.

This webinar will explore how cold storage and cold chain infrastructure support food redistribution and protein accessibility, particularly in light of recent shifts in federal nutrition policy and existing food donation liability protections. The session will bring together perspectives from food banking/redistribution, protein processing, and cold storage operations to discuss the challenges and opportunities of food redistribution.

Join this webinar on Wednesday, October 28th at 11 AM ET for:

  • An update on GCCF’s cold chain development activities
  • A discussion on the role cold storage plays in increasing access to protein for food-insecure populations, including through redistribution and donation channels.
  • Information on how food and protein processing operations coordinate with cold storage and logistics partners to move donated product efficiently.
