GCCA has submitted a comprehensive response to Agriculture and Agri-foods Canada’s (AAFC) consultation on the Emergency Management Framework for Agriculture in Canada. GCCA highlighted the cold chain’s position as a critical player in emergency management within the agri-food system as member companies ensure the preservation of perishable goods during crises and coordinate with supply chain stakeholders to ensure efficient distribution of goods during logistical disruptions. GCCA emphasized the need to focus on specific contingency plans for temperature-sensitive goods during logistical disruptions to help address gaps in safeguarding perishable foods, all while maintaining supply chain integrity.  GCCA recommends that the framework clarifies the position of “others along the supply chain” to specify “third-party logistics providers” to better define the role of GCCA members in the supply chain. Additionally, GCCA recommends that AAFC consider the impact of the increasing number of labour disruptions in recent years and the impact that has on perishable goods and perceptions of the reliability of Canada’s supply chain.
