FMCSA announced on May 14th four key revisions as part of the final rules on hours of service. These revisions included the 30-minute break rule, the sleeper berth rule, the adverse driving conditions exception and the short-haul exception. FMCSA officials stated that these rule changes do not increase driving time for CMV operators and continue to prevent more than eight consecutive hours without at least a 30-minute break. The new hours of service rule will have an implementation date of 120 days after publication in the Federal Register, which is expected next week.
