GCCA Meets with OSHA on new Emphasis Program for Warehouses

As previously reported in the Washington Weekly, on July 13^th, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) launched a new National Emphasis Program (NEP) focused on warehouses and distribution facilities. OSHA developed the program in response to higher-than-average DART rates for warehousing and distribution industry codes. Inspections under the NEP are scheduled to being in October 2023 and will be comprehensive safety inspections covering a wide variety of hazards including powered industrial vehicle operations, material handling/storage, walking-working surfaces, means of egress, and fire protection.

Inspectors have also been instructed to address ergonomics and heat hazards through the NEP. On August 10^th, GCCA staff and members of the Government Affairs Committee met with OSHA to learn more about the NEP.
