GCCF Attends ReFED Summit.

GCCF staff members Amanda Brondy and Madison Jaco attended the ReFED 2024 Food Waste Solutions Summit in Baltimore, MD. This premier event brings together food businesses, funders, solution providers, innovators, policymakers, nonprofits, and more to drive the adoption of food waste solutions.

While at the summit, GCCF connected with current members providing food waste solutions, including technology and service providers and food banks. They also identified new tools to help GCCA Warehouse and Transportation members reduce food waste in their operations. Additionally, GCCF promoted its food waste reduction efforts, including free membership, with organizations like the Maryland Food Bank, the nation’s second-oldest operating food bank, where Madison had the opportunity to volunteer.

A highlight of the summit was the keynote address by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, during which the National Strategy for Reducing Food Loss and Waste and Recycling Organics was officially announced.
