The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) has joined 73 organizations in sending a letter to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD), urging a delay in the implementation of the second phase of the updated overtime rule and extending the deadline from January 1, 2025, to May 1, 2025.

This request comes amid ongoing legal challenges to the rule, which significantly raises the minimum salary threshold for overtime eligibility. The January 2025 increase, which would push the threshold from approximately $44,000 to over $58,000, represents a 65% rise within a year, placing financial and administrative burdens on employers across industries.

Delaying implementation would provide clarity to employers while courts deliberate the rule’s legality. It would also save resources for both businesses and the WHD, which otherwise must proceed with implementing and educating stakeholders on a potentially temporary measure.
