GCCA has recently joined the Partnership for Food Traceability (PFT) in its continued efforts to address the implications of FDA’s Food Traceability Rule. PFT is a public-private partnership in collaboration with the FDA. PFT is a forum that brings all parts of the supply chain together to make critical implementation decisions and define a shared industry vision for food traceability. PFT does this work in collaboration with FDA and other state and local officials.

PFT will be a place for cooperation and coordination, allowing for the ability to exchange, gather, and use traceability data among supply chain partners, which is essential not only for effective and efficient implementation of enhanced food traceability, but also adds predictability to the way food is traced, enhancing transparency, safety, and efficiency in the food supply chain.

Key deliverables of the PFT include:

  • A common vision for traceability across sectors, industries, associations, and consortia.
  • A forum for technical implementation discussions between industry and FDA.
  • A consistent set of business and functional requirements for traceability that provides clarity to solution providers and ensures solutions meet business needs.
  • A decision-making mechanism for critical questions of how traceability should be implemented.
  • An organized public-private plan for how the industry will migrate to enhanced traceability.

GCCA will keep members informed of the work of the PFT as activities move forward.
