GCCA Opposes Warehouse Worker Protection Act in Letter to Senate
Share:
GCCA joined industry partners to express concern over the reintroduced Warehouse Worker Protection Act in a letter to the Senate HELP Committee. GCCA believes this legislation will impose unworkable mandates on warehouses with negative impacts on cold chain companies. The bill introduces burdensome regulations that threaten the efficiency of cold storage and logistics operations, essential for a strong supply chain.
A recent U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report cites a rise in injuries within the warehousing sector as justification for stricter OSHA policies. GAO argues that expanded regulations are necessary to ensure worker safety, especially in fast-paced environments. However, industry has significant concerns that the current version of the bill would lead to supply chain inefficiencies, higher costs, and disruptions in the timely delivery of perishable goods which could have serious downstream effects on consumers and the broader economy.
