Work-Related Deaths Decline in Latest Federal Reports

he U.S. Department of Labor has reported a decrease in work-related fatalities, marking a positive trend in workplace safety. According to datafrom the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the total number of fatal workplace injuries dropped in 2023, reflecting continued efforts to improve safety practices across industries.
The BLS report shows that there were 4,460 fatal work injuries in 2023, a decline of 4.2% compared to the 4,657 fatalities reported in 2022. The fatal injury rate also decreased from 3.6 to 3.4 fatalities per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers. Transportation incidents remained the leading cause of workplace deaths, accounting for 38% of all fatalities, followed by falls, slips, and trips.
