On Friday May 5th, the EPA announced two new programs totaling $4 billion, aimed at transforming the infrastructure of US ports.  The Clean Ports Program, at $3 billion, seeks build on the EPA’s existing ports initiative to upgrade the infrastructure of US ports, while also investing in new equipment and technology that minimizes air pollution, and improves overall air quality.  In addition, the EPA announced $1 billion for the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicle Program, which seeks to offset the cost of replacing heavy-duty commercial vehicles with zero-emission replacements, developing charging/fuel infrastructure, training, and maintenance.  These two investments seek to further improve the effectiveness and efficiency of US ports, while minimizing environmental impacts.  The EPA also posted a request for information, regarding technologies, market price, availability, performance, and feasibility of zero-emission heavy duty vehicles and port equipment.
