As September 30th and the end of the fiscal year fast approaches, Congress is considering mechanisms to keep the government funded.  To date, none of the annual appropriations bills has been completed by Congress and signed into law.  Without Congressional action, there would be a government shutdown impacting a variety of programs and services. House Speaker McCarthy has proposed a short-term continuing resolution to keep the government funded while Congress works to complete appropriation bills. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer recently announced his support for McCarthy’s plan to pass a short-term stopgap bill to prevent a government shutdown on October 1st.  The strategy will likely require significant Democrat support in the House, due some on the right who are fighting for larger reductions in government spending and are hesitant to support continuing resolutions.
