House Republicans Send Letter to Speaker Johnson, Urging Passage of Farm Bill

In the wake of the election of Mike Johnson (R-LA) as the new Speaker of the House, 60 House Republicans sent a letter to the new Speaker urging him to prioritize passage of the Farm Bill.  The letter calls out Johson’s earlier statements in which he expressed support for passing the farm bill by December.  Given the legislative calendar, passage by the end of December is very ambitious. Regardless of whether the House passes its version by December, an extension of the previous Farm Bill will be needed for the House and Senate to complete their respective versions and reconcile the differences in conference.
