In August 2023, GCCA partner Global Foodbanking Network requested that GCCA deliver a cold chain 101 webinar to GFN members. Five months later, Francisco Moura of IceStar developed and delivered this content for members of the Global Foodbanking Network on January 25th. With the support of GCCA Membership Manager, Holly Coughlin who provided an overview of GCCA’s Food Maximization Initiative and complimentary membership program for food banks, Francisco provided detailed information on considerations and best practices for food banks seeking to grow their own cold chain capacity. Specifically, the webinar covered:

  • When to invest in cold chain infrastructure and operations
  • Considerations for cold chain investments
  • Types of operations and infrastructure
  • Refrigeration systems
  • Best practices for sustainability
  • Retrofitting a dry warehouse

Food banks in 25 countries attended, and GCCF will record a version of the webinar to store in the Cold Chain e-campus (the Learning Management System) to be accessible to all food rescue members.
