The Virginia Emergency Temporary Standard, Infectious Disease Prevention: SARS-CoV-2 Virus That Causes COVID-19 went into effect on July 27, 2020. GCCA members with operations in Virginia are encouraged to review the standard and make preparations to comply.
The state has published several compliance assistance resources to help companies understand the new standard and meet the requirements. The publication Nine Steps to Achieve COVID-19 ETS Compliance is a good place for Virginia businesses to start the process. Companies should undertake a Hazard Assessment to determine their risk levels. GCCA members will have to examine their operations to determine their level of risk. It is likely that GCCA member facilities will fit under the “lower risk” or “medium risk” categories, depending on the ability to meet social distancing requirements within the facility.
Facilities deemed to be “medium” risk will be required to develop an Infectious Disease Plan. Employers will also be required to conduct trainings for employees. The state has published resources to assist with both “lower risk” and “medium risk” trainings. The deadline for employee training is August 26, 2020. Trainings associated with Infectious Disease Plans must be completed by September 25, 2020. The state has also provided a Training Certification Form.
