The high quality cold chain sector in Mexico has historically developed around the major urban centers. Despite the economic importance of the agribusiness sector in Mexico (particularly for exports), significant losses still occur even along high-margin value chains. The Secretary of Agriculture’s report “Programa Nacional de Agrologistica” has indicated that challenges along the cold chain and with transport stop Mexico from fully capitalizing on a number of opportunities in the agribusiness sector. This talk will provide an industry level analysis of the cold chain in Mexico as it is structured around the agribusiness sector, highlighting current efforts and opportunities to better connect the cold chain to the sector’s needs.
