On October 22nd, GCCA’s Lowell Randel joined speakers from USDA, the National Restaurant Association and City Harvest to provide a Congressional briefing entitled: Progress through Partnership: Bipartisan Solutions to Hunger and Food Waste. The briefing was sponsored by the Food Systems Collaborative with the objective of increasing awareness about issues related to food loss and waste and encouraging membership in the House Food Recovery Caucus.

Each speaker spoke about their organization’s role and perspective on reducing food loss and waste. Randel highlighted the efforts of GCCA and GCCF to address the challenge of food loss and waste including the offering of free memberships to food banks and food recovery organizations. Randel also discussed current policy challenges and legislative opportunities such as the Feed the Community Act. The briefing was very well attended, reaching 85 staff from House and Senate offices. GCCA looks forward to continued collaboration with government and industry partners to advance the shared goal of reducing food loss and waste.
