For Immediate Release

5 August 2024 (Arlington, VA) The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) has been recognized as a Power of Associations Gold Award by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for its successful Cold Chain Institute initiative.

The Cold Chain Institute, run by the Global Cold Chain Foundation (GCCF) over the past 60 years, has trained thousands of professionals responsible for the safe and efficient movement of perishable productions through the supply chain. This training program provides an invaluable opportunity for cold chain professionals to learn from industry experts as well as their peers. It has become a revered program to develop a company’s most important asset—talent.

Over three years, participants from across the globe attend three-day sessions covering topics such as cold chain management, customer service, employee safety, food safety, warehouse and transportation operations, and leadership development. The program also provides valuable networking opportunities, allowing students to build relationships with peers and mentors. Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion, recognizing their advanced skills in the industry.

This year, the Cold Chain Institutes have been held in Atlanta, Georgia (U.S.), Tempe, Arizona (U.S.), Melbourne, Australia, and Mexico City, Mexico, bringing together over 600 cold chain professionals to engage in these specialized courses and enhance their expertise in the cold chain industry. These four Institutes saw over 160 graduates completed the three-year program so far this year, marking one of the most successful years for the Institute program. Two more Institutes are scheduled over the next few months, with one taking place in São Paulo, Brazil in August and other in Rotterdam, Netherlands in September. This will be the first time these two locations have hosted the institute training program.

“Congratulations to GCCA for exemplifying the impact associations have on the industries and professions they represent, and on society at large,” said ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE. “It’s always so incredibly satisfying to see associations going above and beyond their everyday mission to change the world. We’re very proud to spotlight this award-winning initiative.”

Adam Thocher, GCCF’s Executive Director remarked: “We are incredibly proud of the success the Cold Chain Institute has achieved globally and are excited about the growth and impact of this world class program to the food supply chain industry. Our members have consistently expressed the immense value the Institute brings to both their employees who participate and their businesses, and we are committed to continuing to expand and enhance the program to meet their needs as we approach the 60th anniversary of the program in 2025.”
