In April 2023, GCCF began the Agricultural Trade and Climate Smart Innovations (ATraCSI) Project, partnering with Improving Economies for Stronger Communities (IESC) and funded by the USDA. The project will run until 2027 and will focus on implementing international and risk-based Sanitary and Phytosanitary Regulations (SPS) measures, implement measures under the existing World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreements (TFA), and assist in strengthening Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) through development and transfer of agriculture technologies that focus on effective, sustainable, and environmentally friendly use of agricultural resources which focus on the high value horticulture value chains in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
The first completed activity of this project was a study tour in Miami which invited participants from each country to visit US Customs and GCCA members to demonstrate what happens to a product once it leaves their hands. Cold chain assessments, identification of investment opportunities, and training on cold chain best practices are planned.
